抄録 | Images of the deity Ganesh in East Asia are discussed. Ganesh imagery is mainly found in a Buddhist context and in China for short periods of time. Ganesh was relatively unimportant, perhaps due to the fact that Buddhism never took over as the main religion in China as it did in Tibet. The most recent introduction of Ganesh into China was during the Ch'ing dynasty,a time when Tibetan Buddhism was the religion of the Manchu rulers. By contrast,Ganesh has a definite place in the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon in Tibet and Mongolia, represented either as an enemy of religion or as a god of wealth. |
