| 抄録 | Today the "Heart Sutra" (Jap.：Han-nya-shin-gyo; No.11) is still used in many schools of Japanese Buddhism，and over the centuries many commentaries have been composed on this sutra. This particular commentary，"The Secret Key to the Heart Sutra, " is characterized by the fact that it is written from the standpoint of the Shingon School of Esoteric Buddhism，asserting that the "Heart Sutra" be in fact an esoteric text.
Kukai discussed first the general purport，title and variant translations of this sutra from the standpoint of Esoteric Buddhism，and then goes on to divide it into 5 parts and to give an interpretation of each part. According to the colophon，this commentary was composed by imperial order at a time when the land was being ravaged by a plague. |
