抄録 | "The Three Jewels and Dharma Transmission" A traditional presentation of the meaning of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, along with a discussion of the central Buddhist teachings and the major philosophical schools. From the chapter "The Dharma,": The Bodhisattva develops bodhicitta in two ways: by understanding the theoretical bases of the view and the path, and by realizations which impart true and enduring insight. The initial accumulation of merit and knowledge is accomplished by the calming of body and mind through shamatha, the analysis fostered by the practice of vipashyana, and the cultivation of the 37 wings of enlightenment by study and application. Undertaken with mindfulness of the intention to attain enlightenment for the salvation of others, these factors comprise the Bodhisattva's preparation for the first stage of the path, simultaneously developing confidence and nurturing bodhiscitta. The growth of bodhicitta is supported by two lineages which delineate the view and the path to enlightenment. Although each explains the path somewhat differently, both are mutually complementary and arise from profound insight into the Prajnaparamita teachings of sunyata. The view that leads to full awakening to the implications of sunyata was clarified by Nagarjuna, who drew upon the wisdom lineage of Manjushri to communicate the way to dispel illusion. The theoretical basis provided by Nagarjuna was shaped into a detailed path by Asanga, who explicated the teachings of Maitreya and described the way to experience and nurture bodhicitta into a stabile motivation for enlightenment. The view and path are set forth in Candrakirti's Prasannapada, Maitreya's Mahayanasutralamkara, and Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara. Commentaries by Asanga, Prajnakaramati, and other masters of Madhyamika and Yogacara traditions further develop the teaching of these central works. The texts describe the stages of the path, the realizations that arise at each stage, and the 22 kinds of bodhicitta that will be experienced…However, at every stage external actions and intellectual effort must be followed by realization, for only realization develops paramartha-bodhicitta, the mind directed ever more strongly to complete and perfect enlightenment.
