抄録 | It's natural that the contact of culture is more frequent with neighbor countries. The cultural exchange between Korea and China has a long history and a broad width. From a variety of the cultural exchange between two countries, the interchange of Buddhism which has been maintained for 1600 years is more remarkable. Among Abroad studying monks(求法僧; the priest seeking for Buddha's Dharma), there were not the least Buddhist monks to be active in China w ithout returning to their home country. The conventional valuation on these priests couldn't have exceeded the limitati on of a historical view of nationalism(民族史觀). By the reason of that, it has been often either understood that their activities contributed to development of Chinese Buddhism, or explained that Korean Buddhism expanded overseas. But this thesis aimed at what the activities of Gububseung made a contribution to the formation and development of Buddhism in the East Asia. Therefore, this paper laid more emphasis on their action in China than those in Korea after their returning. The national boundary didn't matter in the activities of Junbubseung(傳法僧: the priest diffusing Buddha's Dharma) and Gububseung. Their national consciousness was not strong like these days. The travels for seeking after Dharma, accordingly, was relatively free and brisk. Some Gububseung were back from abroad and played an active part in their homeland. Others spent their whole life in China without returning to their home country. Among the priests returning back, there were also eminent monks(高僧) of great reputation like Wonguang, Jajang, Yeonguang and Wonpyo while they sought after Dharma and stayed in China. For example, Seungrang Paya Jiduck of Koguryo and Woncheuk Jijang Musang Hyecho of Silla, they were eminent monks who dwelled in China throughout their whole life and considerably established their fame. Moreover, Woncheuk, Sinbang, Jeein and Seungjang and so on, they participated in translation of the Sutras(譯經) and produced so many achievements. The discourses of Buddha which eight of monks of Silla took part in the translation were as many as 76 volumes of 1,273 copies. If you think the formation of Buddhism of East Asia came from the translating the Sutras into Chinese, they played very important role. It can be said, therefore, Hadong-Gububseung who acted in China between the 7th and 8th century were extremely conductive to the formation and development of Buddhism in the East Asia. |
