| 抄録 | 일본은 근대국가를 제정일치의 천황제 국가로 재편하기 위해 불교를 타자로 놓고 폐불훼석를 통해 국가권력의 하부 구조로 편성하였다. 그리고 국체론을 통한 사회적 통제는 물론 불교로 하여금 국체론적 불교관을 스스로 구성하도록 하였다.
이러한 면에서 정토진종의 진속이제(眞俗二諦)는 근대 왕권과의 관계를 통해 군국주의 논리를 교단화한 것이다. 청일전쟁에 교단이 적극적으로 참여하는 한편, 이후에도 군국주의 국가노선을 지속적으로 지지, 지원하게 되었다. 법주의 중앙권력은 이러한 왕법위본(王法爲本)의 교학과 군국주의 수행을 위로부터 가능하게 하였다. 선종은 전쟁선의 논리를 통해 대외전쟁의 정당성을 부여하였으며, 많은 젊은이들을 전쟁터로 내모는 결과를 낳기도 하였다. 근대의 선불교의 학자들은 이러한 논리를 재가자들에 부여하였던 것이다. 일련주의를 기반으로 하는 근대 일련종계 또한 왕불명합(王佛冥合)의 논리를 통해 군국주의와 파시즘을 지원하는 교학을 세우고, 군국주의자들에게 직접적인 영향력을 발휘했다. 특히 초국가주의 일련주의자들은 직접 전쟁을 기획하고 일본을 중심으로 한 세계통일국가를 실현하고자 하였다.
결과적으로 이러한 군구주의에 대한 불교계의 지원은 근대 일본불교의 암흑기를 만들어 내었다. 정치와 종교의 관계는 긴장관계를 지녀야함에도 근대적 상황의 한계 속에서 불법의 보편적인 이념을 저버린 결과이기도 하다. 본 연구를 통해 전통적인 불법왕법의 논리가 근대일본불교사에 무비판적으로 굴절된 과정을 다시금 돌아보게 하는 것은, 근대 동아시아 불교를 전체적인 입장에서 재조명하여 그 교훈을 얻고자 하는 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다.
This treatise is a study on the policy for militarism and the movements of buddhist society to accept it in modern buddhism in Japan through buddhism's theory for defense of country. Statesmen in modern state after the Meiji Revolution(明治革命 organized buddhism under governmental control for theocracy centering on an emperor by taking this opportunity to control buddhism. They controlled the people by her Kokutairon(國體論) and let buddhists make the theory for it.
The Sinzokunitai(眞俗二諦) of Zodoshinsyu(淨土眞宗) was made into the doctrine of order from the theory of militarism in relation with royal authority.
Believers in the order of Zodoshinsyu positively engaged themselves in wars, that is, the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-5 and Russia-Japanese war of 1904-5. They took their stand behind the governmental policy after that. Orders of Zen gave legitimacy to wars through the theory of Zen at war also. Scholars of Zen buddhism made theories like this in modern time. Orders on based Nichirensyu(日蓮宗) on Nichirensyugi(日蓮主義) established theories to support militarism and fascism through the theory of Obutsumyogo. Follower who asserted ultranationalism based on it, planed wars and tried to establish a united government of that japan holds the reins.
As a result, the supports of orders made a dark age in modern buddhism in Japan, for buddhists bailed out universal truth, although orders of religion has to strain on relation with politics. They purposely twisted the sense of the theory of Ohobuppo(王法佛法). This treatise represents much to us through thies facts. |
