抄録

근래에 고려 妙慧찬 『法華三昧懺助宣講義』와 고려 山亘찬 『妙法蓮華經三昧懺法』이라는 저술이 발견됨으로써, 고려후기 법화신행에 대한 재조명이 필요하게 되었다. 고려의 법화삼매 수행이 백련사와 묘련사에서 수행되었는데, 새로 발견된 것은 백련사에 신행되지 않은 수행집이었다.
묘련사 중심의 법화신행은 묘련사 후대에 이르러 원혜국통과 무외국통 의선 등이 중심인물로 법화삼매를 닦았다. 이때의 법화삼매 수행집은 고려 산긍이 찬술한 『妙法蓮華經三昧懺法』으로 닦았다. 그리고 법화삼매를 올바로 닦도록 수행집에 대한 강의서로 영암사 주지 묘혜는 『法華三昧懺助宣講義』를 편찬하여 사용하였다. 이 강의서의 찬술자 묘혜는 요원찬 『법화영험전』의 발문을 쓰고 있다. 이 발문에서는 저술동기에 대해서 법화경을 올바로 신행하도록 하기 위해 강의서를 지었다고 하고, 그 신행의 증험으로 영험전을 보아야 한다고 밝히고 있다. 따라서 신행서로 요원의 『법화영험전』이 중요한 역할을 하였음을 알 수 있다. 또한 이 수행집은 천태대사의 『법화문구』에 의한 해설을 하고 있어서 앞의 백련사가 계환해를 채택한 것과 비교된다. 그리고 그 외호세력도 당시 원나라 치하의 중요 세력가였던 조덕유 후손에 의해 지원을 받았다.
이와 같이 본다면 고려 후기 법화신행은 백련사를 중심으로 『법화삼매참의』에 의한 법화삼매 수행, 묘련사 중심의 『묘법연화경삼매참법』에 의한 법화삼매 수행으로 전개 되었음을 알 수 있다.

With recent discovery of the two Buddhist texts, reappraisal of late-Goryeo’s belief and practice of the Lotus Sutra is required. Both the works are Beophwa sammaecham joseon gangui (『法華三昧懺助宣講儀』, Commentary on Repentance Ritual of the Ṣaddharma-puṇḍarīika-samādhi; hereafter, Gangui) edited by Goryeo’s Myohyeo妙慧 and Myobeop yeonhwagyeong sammae chambeop (『妙法蓮華經三昧懺法』, Method of the Lotus Sutra Samādhi; hereafter, Chambeop) edited by Goryeo’s San-geung山亘. After all, the practice of saddharma-puṇḍarīika-samādhi, or Dharma-flower absorption, in the Goryeo period was reportedly done at Baengnyeon-sa(白蓮寺) and Myoryeon-sa(妙蓮寺); however, the above newly-found are texts not utilized at Baengnyeon-sa.
The Dharma-flower practice conducted around Myoryeon-sa was one done primarily by national preceptors國統, Wonhyeo and Mu-oe, and a master Uiseon in the later period of the temple. The text for the practice at the time was Chambeop edited by Goryeo’s San-geung山亘. Also, Myohyeo, abbot of Yeongam-sa, compiled its commentary, Gangui, for the correct cultivation of the Lotus samadhi. The compiler of the commentary Myohyeo also wrote the epilogue of Beophwa yeongheomjeon (『법화영험전』, The Miracle of he Ṣaddharma-puṇḍarīika-samādhi) edited by Yowon.
This epilogue makes it clear that he was motivated to write the commentary for the correct practice of the Lotus Sutra and that this book should be consulted for confirming the efficacy of the practice. Thus, it follows that this book played a significant role as a text of the Lotus belief and practice. The text also offers an exposition based on Zhiyi’s智顗 Fahua wenju『法華文句』, whereas the Baengryeon-sa’s adopted Jiehuan’s戒環 commentarial edition on the sutra. In addition, the practice was supported by a descendant of Jo Deok-yu, an influential figure under the rule of Yuan China. Such being the case, it can be recognized that late-Goryeo’s belief and practice activities of the Lotus Sutra were done in two ways: one was by the practice relying upon Beophwa sammae chamui 法華三昧懺儀 around Baekryeon-sa, and the other upon Chambeop around Myoryeon-sa.
