| 抄録 | 일본근대는, 불교의 입장에서는 폐불훼석(廢佛毁釋)의 여파로 그 입지가 축소되고, 여전히 폐쇄적인 교단주의에 대해 개혁을 요구하는 목소리가 높아지는 가운데 신도(神道)를 정신적 지주로 하는 천황제 국가의 이념이 확장되어 가고 있었다. 이러한 때 재가불교의 기치를 내걸고 일련주의 운동이 일어난다. 이 가운데 타나카 치가쿠(田中智學, 1861~1939)는 일련주의 운동의 이론가이자 실천가로서 조직적인 활동을 펼쳐나간다. 그의 일련주의는 군국주의 일본의 패망(1945년)에 까지 많은 수의 일련주의자들에게 영향을 끼쳤으며, 오늘날의 일련계의 종파나 신종교와도 그 근대적 맥락을 함께 하고 있다. 일본이 천황제 국가의 기반위에 군국주의화되어 가는 시기에 일련주의는 종조 니치렌(日蓮, 1222-82))의 불법위본(佛法爲本)의 사상과는 이반된 채 국가주의 이념으로 재생산되어 간다. 일본의 근대불교가 암흑기라고 하는 이유 중의 하나가 여기에 있는 것이다. 이러한 측면에서 타나카 치가쿠의 일련주의에 대한 분석과 이를 기반으로 한 불법호국론 및 국체론을 규명하고자 하였다. 동아시아 근대불교의 역사는 일본의 근대불교사를 시야에 넣었을 때, 그 연구2의 전망이 분명해짐을 드러내고자 하는 것이 본 논문의 의도라고 할 수 있다.
The buddhism in Japanese modern time had a difficult situation in the aftermath of the destruction of buddhism. At the same time, the emperor system, which was supported by shintoism, was expanding in meeting the needs of reforming the obsolete system of buddhism's order. In these times the Nichirenism with the secularistic buddhism as the slogan has happened. Tanaka Chigaku(1861~1939) among these active persons was systematic in his work. He with his Nichirenism exerted influence on many Nichirenists until the day of Japanese defeat in the World WarⅡ. That is on same line with sects or new religions of Nichren's lineage founded in modern time, too. The Nichirenism, which was alienated from thought of the founder Nichiren (1222-82), reproduced as ideology of nationalism in the time going for militarism on the base of country of the emperor system. The reason to say that modern buddhism was in the dark days is here. From these aspects like this, this writer tried to analyze the Nichirenism of Tanaka Chigaku, and on the base of this analysis, to touch bottom of buddhism's theory for defense of country and Kokutairon. The significance of this thesis is to present what researching outlook is clear and bright, when we come within the field of the history of japanese modern buddhism like this. |
