| 抄録 | 본고는 현존하는 최고(最古)의 청규로 알려진 자각 종색(自覺宗?)의 『선원청규(禪苑淸規)』에 나타나는 식생활을 율장과 비교하며, 양자 간의 유사성 및 청규의 특징을 밝힌 것이다. 인도와 다른 환경을 가진 중국에서 불교가 정착하면서 인도 성립의 ‘율장’외에 다양한 규범집이 등장하였다. 그 중 대표적인 것이 ‘청규(淸規)’이다. 청규는 중국의 선종 교단에서 지켜야 할 일상적인 생활 규범 혹은 그러한 규범들을 모아놓은 규범집을 일컫는다. 선종 교단의 규범집이라는 청규의 기본적 성격은 마치 청규를 율장과 완전히 다른 규범집으로 오해하게 만들지만, 중국의 승가 역시 불교 승가인 이상, 현실을 고려하면서도 전통적인 율장의 가르침에 담긴 이념이나 정신은 살리는 방향으로 규범을 조정해가고 있다. 본고에서는 『선원청규』에 나타나는 식생활에 관한 규범 가운데 불응식(不應食)과 비시식(非時食), 정인(淨人), 끽식법(喫食法)이라는 네 가지 주제를 중심으로 율장의 해당 내용과 비교하며, 어떤 점에서 청규가 율장의 조문 내지 이념을 반영하고 있는지 또 어떤 점에서 독자적인 발전을 보이고 있는지 살펴보았다. 이들 네 가지 점에 있어서 청규는 율장의 규정이나 이념을 비교적 충실하게 유지하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 불응식도 비시식도 율장의 기본 입장을 잘 반영하면서, 한편으로 율장보다 한층 더 엄격한 규정을 하고 있다. 특히 불응식의 경우에는 율장의 규정에 대승불교 내지 보살계의 규정을 추가적으로 고려하는 형태를 보이고 있다. 정인의 경우에는 형식적이기는 하지만, 정인을 통해 음식을 보시 받는 형태를 취함으로써 이 역시 율장의 ‘불수식계’의 이념을 가능한 한 살려내려 애쓰고 있다. 한편, 끽식법의 경우에는 『사분율』의 「중학법」에 나오는 규정들을 그대로 수용하면서 이에 배가 넘는 규정들을 추가함으로써 더 엄격하게 음식을 먹는 법을 규정해가고 있다.
This paper compares the dietary life shown in the Chanyuan qinggui 禪苑淸規 compiled by Changlu Zongze 長蘆宗? (n.d.) and the Four-part Vinaya 四分律. Buddhism settled in China, which has a different environment from India, and various collections of norms appeared in addition to the Vinayapitaka of India. A typical example is the ‘Pure Rules 淸規’. The Pure Rules refers to the daily life norms or the normative collection of such norms to be kept in the Comprehensive Monasteries 叢林 of China. The basic character of the Pure Rules, which is the norm book of the Comprehensive Monasteries, makes the Pure Rules misunderstood as a completely different collections of norms with the Vinayapitaka. However, as China’s Samgha is also a Buddhist Samgha, it is adjusting the norm in the direction of reviving the ideals and spirit of the teachings of the traditional Vinayapitaka while considering reality. In this paper, we compare the contents of the four items of the food that should not be eaten 不應食, the food that should not be eaten at the inadequate time 非時食, kappiya-karaka 淨人, the attitude to eat 喫食法 in the Chanyuan qinggui. In what way, we examine whether the Pure Rules reflects the norms or ideology of the Vinayapitaka, and in what ways it shows its own development. In these four points, the Chanyuan qinggui seems to maintain the rule or ideology of the Vinayapitaka relatively faithfully. The food that should not be eaten and the food that should not be eaten at the inadequate time reflect well the basic position of the Vinayapitaka, and on the other hand, they are stricter than those of the Vinayapitaka. In the case of the food that should not be eaten, especially, the regulations of the Mahayana Buddhism or the Bodhisattva precepts are added to the rules of the Vinayapitaka. In the case of kappiya-karaka, though it is formal, by taking food through kappiya-karaka, this too is trying to revive the ideology of ‘the rule that food should be received through dana(a temple offering) 不受食戒’ of the Vinayapitaka as much as possible. On the other hand, in the case of the attitude to eat, the provisions of ‘Rules to learn 衆學法’ in the Four-part Vinaya are accepted as they are. |
