| 抄録 | The paper offers a reading of the Collected Dhāraṇī Scriptures (T. 901, dated 654), a Chinese collection of Buddhist spells and the rituals in which they are used. The material is for the most part translated from Indic sources and the collection’s relatively early date and richness of its content make it a valuable source for reconstructing the evolution of esoteric Buddhist ritual in India. Much of the textual evidence for the earlier stages of the development is no longer preserved in any Indic language. On the basis of an examination of this work a broad hypothesis is proposed that traces the evolution of esoteric Buddhist rituals from a simple practice of recitation of spells, of the kind documented in Chinese collections that go back to the end of the fourth and beginning of the fifth century, to elaborate maṇḍala initiation ceremonies, including those that make extensive use of visualization practices in influential scriptures that were translated into Chinese in the first half of the eighth century.
Cet article présente une lecture du Recueil d’Écritures à dhāraṇī (T. 901, daté de 654), une collection, en chinois, d’incantations bouddhiques et des rites où on les emploie. Ce matériau est, pour l’essentiel, traduit de sources indiennes; la date relativement ancienne de cette collection et la richesse de son contenu en fait une source précieuse pour reconstruire l’évolution du rituel ésotérique bouddhique en Inde, la plus grande part des témoignages textuels de ce développement ayant disparu de toute langue indienne. L’on propose ici, à partir de l’examen de cette oeuvre, une hypothèse générale retraçant une évolution des rituels ésotériques bouddhiques: cette évolution se serait développée de la simple pratique de la récitation d’incantations, — telle qu’en témoigne les collections chinoises qui remontent à la fin du 4e siècle et au début du 5e —, à des cérémonies d’initiation à maṇḍala, y compris celles qui font un emploi intense de pratiques de visualisation, dans des Écritures qui furent traduites en chinois dans la première moitié du 8e siècle. |
