| 抄録 | 세계 각국의 불교인들은 다양한 언어로 불경을 번역해 왔다. 한국 불 교인들 번역된 불경을 사용해 왔다. 특히 한국의 불교인들은 한문과 한 글로된두다른번역본을사용하고있다. 한국불교인들은자신의고유 언어가 있을 뿐 아니라 15세기 이후에는 독자적인 완벽한 표기체계를 가졌음에도불구하고오랜세월동안한문경전에의지해왔다. 한국사 회가 현대화되기 시작한 20세기 초가 되고서야 비로소 한국 불교인들은 본격적으로 불경을 한글로 번역할 필요성을 느끼게 되었다. 불교 문헌 을 한글로 번역하는 일은 역사적인 의미가 깊은 일이다. 산스크리트와 팔리어로 된 불경을 한문으로 번역하는 것이 하나의 언어에서 다른 하 나의 문화와 언어로 번역하는 수평적인 번역이라면, 한문 불경을 한글 로 번역하는 것은 과거의 언어와 문화에서 현재의 언어와 문화로, 그리 고 특권 계층의 문화와 언어를 일반인의 문화와 언어로 번역하는 수직 적인번역이라할수있다. 이번역은한국불교의현대화의실현을대변 하는 것이다.
Buddhists in different countries have different translations of Buddhist scripts. Korean Buddhists also have their own translations. Moreover, Korean Buddhists have two different types of translations: Classical Chinese translations and Korean translations. For a long time Korean Buddhists relied only on Classical Chinese translations, although the Korean people have had their own writing system, Hangeul, since the 15th century. Only following the modernization of Korean society beginning in the early 20th century have Korean Buddhists realized the necessity of translating Buddhist scripture into Hangeul. This translation of Buddhist manuscripts into Hangeul has historical significance. Whereas translation from one language to another could be described as horizontal, that is, across cultures and languages, the translation in Korea from Classical Chinese to Hangeul can be described as vertical, that is, from the language and culture of the past into that of the present. This represents the realization of the modernization of Korean Buddhism. |
