| 抄録 | This paper offers a critique of the Western-language translation of the Buddhist treatise the Awakening of Faith in Mahāyāna in the specific case of its text structure, examining what the translators have done to reconstruct and then to delineate this structure, and then discussing where they have not done enough in these two aspects. It argues that these translations exhibit a general lack of attention to this structure and in that sense to the complex technicality of the treatise. In the sense that the technicality of a text is its integral component and thus indispensable for its successful translation, this critique constitutes a call for greater attention to the text structure of the treatise in a possible future translation. It further argues, in some additional reflections, that this conspicuous lack of attention to technicality is perhaps conscious and political, resulted from the need of a cultural symbol rather than a meticulous work of philology in the cultural encounter between the West and East.
本文考察《大乘起信論》西語翻譯中對文本結構的處理，一方面分 析諸譯重構與標示這一結構的種種方法，另一方面指出他們在這兩方面 工作中的不足。文章旨在説明《大乘起信論》現有西譯普遍缺乏對文本 結構的深入關注，進而普遍缺乏對文本自身複雜的技術性細節的關注。 技術性細節的充分再現是任何一部合格翻譯所不可或缺的基本條件之 一，所以本文的考察指出了該論各種西譯中一個普遍存在的問題，並形 成對未來重譯中著力方向的一種預期。文章進一步提出，上述西譯之不 足，是因爲東西方各種譯者，在現代性的文化碰撞及其餘波影響之下， 更關注一個普及性的文化符號，而非一個完全學術化的作品。 |
