| 抄録 | The women of Sri Lanka have long captured the imagination of scholars around the world as they have courageously negotiated and re-negotiated their place in a tradition that established its roots on the island more than two thousand years ago. This negotiation has recently intensified, as some women have chosen to take robes that neither the government nor most male monastic authorities generally recognise. As a result of both field research and textual study, this paper examines the choice made by those who have chosen not to take formal ordination. |
