抄録 | This work is a synthetic interpretation of the Chinese Buddhist Hwa Yen religio-philosophic school established during the T'ang period (7th-8th century AD) by Tu Shun (557-640) and Fa Tsang (643-712) based on the Chinese translations of the 'Mahayana' Sanskrit text, the "Gandavyuha" or "Avatamsaka Sutra" (e.g.,Taisho 279). Professor Chang examines in some detail the interrelationships of such concepts as emptiness ("sunyata"),Buddhist "idealism" and "mind-only" epistemology. There are 53 pages of translated Hwa Yen texts and biographies of the patriarchs.
