| 抄録 | 傳統上，對《本生》的意義是指釋迦牟尼佛不光只是在今生，而於過去無數劫以來，修行種種菩薩行的故事，以表現出教化的作用。然而，在巴利語《本生》中，發現世尊除了投生為天神、國王、龍等高貴的身分，也曾投生為賭徒、盜賊等較卑下的身分。
本論文稍有別於傳統上宗教性的角度，而是以文學的角度來分析幾則或熟悉、或較不熟悉的巴利語本生故事。文中除了有前言和結語外，分為巴利語《本生》簡介、《本生》中世尊前世的負面角色、《本生》中世尊前世的負面形象、和印度文化的傳說等幾個小節。
結語提到這些本生故事若以純宗教的角度來談，似乎會有不合適的情況，但若從文學的角度看，則可看出本生故事豐富的多樣性。
Traditionally, the meaning of Jātaka is the Gotama Buddha who practised the bodhisatta's deeds not only in this life time, but also in previous innumerable eons, and shows the signifitance of spiritual cultivations. However, in the Pāli Jātaka, we have found that the previous lives of the Gotama Buddha was not only reborn as a heavenly god, king, nāga, but also reborn in the lower class, such as a gambler, or a thief.
The present paper tries to analyze some Jātaka tales which is familiar, or not familiar to us from the literary aspects instead of the traditional religious point of view. This paper divides into seven sections: Section one and two are the preface and the introduction of Pāli Jātaka; Section three is the analysis of the characters appeared in the Jātaka; Section four examines some negative characters of Gotama's previous lives appeared in the Jātaka; Section five delineates some misbehaviors of Gotama's previous lives appeared in the Jātaka; Section six explains the legends according to the Indian culture; Section seven is the conclusion.
The conclusion mentions that it will be improper when we take the Jātaka as a purely religious text. It would be suitable when we consider the Jātaka is a literary work as well, then we can appreciate the richness and varieties within it.
