抄録 | The article presents brief discussion regarding the appropriation and integration of the ancient Chinese legend of King Mu of Zhou into Buddhist apologetics. Two distinct legendary traditions of the king are outlined and contrasted. Accounts are then provided describing how both versions were used by Medieval-era Chinese Buddhist scholars such as the Tang Dynasty monk Falin, wherein the king's travels are associated with the Buddha. |
