| 抄録 | 일연의 『삼국유사』에는 오대산 관련 항목이 4편 존재한다. 오대산에 대한 자료는 이외에도 일연보다 약 40여 년 늦은 인물인 민지(閔漬)의 『오대산사적』(五臺山事蹟)이 있다. 두 문헌은 상호 비슷한 구성과 항목적인 분절을 보이는데, 이는 상호 비슷한 시기의 자료를 대상으로 했기 때문이다.
그런데 두 문헌을 자세히 보면, 같은 오대산 문헌 안에서도 ‘보천 · 효명’과 ‘신효’에 대한 내용이 분절되어 있는 것이 확인된다. 이 중 신효에 대해서는 자료의 산만함으로 인해, 상대적으로 연구가 미진한 상태였다.
그러나 오대산의 개창자인 자장의 주된 계승자가 보천과 효명이 아닌 신효라는 점, 또 오대산을 대표하는 사찰인 월정사의 정립에서 가장 중요한 인물이 신효라는 점은 신효에 대한 연구의 필연성을 제기하기에 충분하다.
본고에서는 신효의 연대를 추론하고 신효의 월정사 수조(修造)가 가지는 의미에 관해 모색해 보았다. 그리고 월정사의 ‘월정(月精)’이라는 불교에서 흔히 사용되지 않는 寺名의 대두와 관련해서, 신효의 동선(動線)에 입각해 경주 월정교(月精橋)의 명칭 영향을 제시해 보았다. 또 이렇게 해서 추론되는 신효의 오대산 주석 연대는 760- 800년대 초반으로 판단된다.
In Ilyeon's Samguk Yusa, there are four articles related to Mt. Odaesan. In addition to the data on Odaesan, there is also the Odaesan Sajeok (五臺山事蹟) written by Minji (閔漬) about 40 years after Ilyeon's book. The two books have similar content and item segmentations, because they contain data of roughly the same period.
However, when examining the two documents closely, it is confirmed that even within the same document, the content regarding Bocheon (寶川) and Hyomyeong (孝明) and that regarding Sinhyo (信孝) are divided. Among these, the research on Sinhyo was relatively incomplete due to scattered data.
However, research on Sinhyo is necessary because he, not Bocheon and Hyomyung, was the main successor of Odaesan's founder, Jajang (慈藏). This is because Sinhyo was the most important person in the establishment of Woljeongsa, a temple representing Odaesan.
In this paper, the age of Sinhyo is inferred and the meaning behind his restoration of Woljeongsa is examined. Furthermore, in relation to the name of Woljeong (月精), which was not commonly used in Buddhism, this thesis suggests there was an influence of the Woljeonggyo (月精橋), a bridge in Gyeongju, based on the movement line of Sinhyo. Thus, the date of Sinhyo's residence in Mt. Odaesan is judged to be between 760 and 800 CE. |
