| 抄録 | 이 논문은 탄생 200년을 맞아 세계적으로 다시 주목받고 있는 맑스의 사상과 붓다의 사상이 만나 소통함으로써 새로운 문명을 열어갈 가능성에 주목하고 그 과정에서 맑시즘의 종교 비판과 그것이 근거한 인식론의 문제가 의미 있는 성찰 을 줄 수 있다는 문제의식을 담았다.
맑시즘에서 종교 비판을 체계적으로 전개한 사상가는 레닌이다. 레닌은 종교가 현실의 고통을 외면할 때 ‘민중의 아편’이 될 수밖에 없는 논리를 인식론에 근거해 정립했다.
꼭 맑시즘의 비판이 아니더라도 부익부 빈익빈의 사회를 넘어서는 대안 마련과 주체 형성에 현대 불교가 더 적극 나서야 한다. 칼 맑스의 사상은 세계적으로 부익부 빈익빈이 심화되고 있는 21세기 상황에서 다시 주목받고 있으며 맑스의 책을 읽는 미국 청년들이 늘어나고 있다는 보도가 2018년 미국 언론에 나오고 있다. 그러나 19세기 맑스 사상을 21세기에 그대로 적용하는 것은 타당성도 없고바람직하지도 않다.
붓다의 사상은 맑시즘의 한계를 넘어설 풍부한 사유를 담고 있다. 불교는 인식주체 못지않게 인식 대상의 문제에도 혜안을 줄 수 있다. 붓다가 평등을 가르쳤듯이 현대 불교는 오늘의 탐욕스러운 자본주의 사회에서 고통 겪고 있는 민중을 자유롭게 해야 한다.
This paper explores the significance of the Marxist critique of religion in Buddhism. When Buddhism communicates with Marx who is now celebrated for the 200th anniversary of his birth, a new civilization can be pursued. The critique of religion in Marxism and the epistemology based on it give a meaningful reflection to people living in conemporary society.
The philosopher who systematically applied the logic of Marxismto criticize religion is Vladimir Lenin, the leader of the Russian Revolution. Lenin warned that religion might become a 'people's opium'when it turns itself away from the pain of people’s life.
Modern Buddhism should actively contribute to overcoming the problems of capitalism. Marxism is receiving global attention again. More young Americans are reading Marx's books as is evidenced in America's press releases in 2018. However, it is not appropriate to apply the 19th century Marx idea to the 21st century. It is not desirable, either.
Buddhist epistemology holds wisdom to solve the limit of Marxism. Buddhism can give wisdom to the problem of perceived objects as much as that of the perceiving subject. The Buddha taught that all human beings are equal. Modern Buddhism should free people of from their suffering in today's greedy capitalist society. |
