| 抄録 | 본고는 한국 불교문학 연구의 기원을 안확의 『조선문학사』(1922)에서 찾고, 이후 약 1백년 간 진행된 불교문학의 연구사를 검토하였다. 기존 연구가 원용하고 있는 방법론과 그 경향을 분석하는 한편 앞으로의 전망을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구사는 시대와 장르를 중심으로 하여 1920년대~해방 이전, 해방 이후~1970년대, 1980년대~1990년대, 2000년대 이후로 구분지어 논의를 전개하였다. 문학연구가 연구자가 속해 있는 각 시기의 시대인식과 문학에 대한 기대 지평에 따라 변화되어 왔다는 점을 전제로 하여, 각 시기 불교문학의 연구가 어떤 시대적 배경을 가지고 전개되어 왔는가를 검토하였다. 시대적 배경으로는 당시 한국문학에 대한 인식, 문학연구의 경향이 연구에 어떻게 반영되어 있는가를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 한국의 불교문학연구가 방법론으로 일반 문학연구 방법론을 주도한 것은 아니지만, 다양한 방법론적 고민이 개별 논문에 반영되어 있는 것을 확인하였다. 2000년 이후 다양화된 방법론적 고민을 검토하면서 장차 이 방면 연구의 활성화에 기여할 방법론으로 원전비평적 연구, 비교문학적 연구, 심리학적 연구를 제언하였다. 현재 불교학 분야에서는 불교경전에 대한 문학성 탐구를 위주로 하고, 문학 연구 분야에서는 불교가 한국에 유입되면서 산출된 번역물, 창작물에 대한 구체적 연구를 위주로 하는 경향이 있음을 확인하고, 양자의 통합적 연구를 위한 제언으로 공동의 관심사를 보여줄 수 있는 텍스트를 발굴하여 공동 강독, 번역, 연구를 진행할 것을 제안하였다.
In this paper I analyzed the methodologies used in previous studies and their trends. I then suggested future prospects. I wrote this paper based on the assumption that research into literature has evolved over time in accordance with changes in perceptions and expectations. Therefore I examined the historical background of each period in which Buddhist literature developed. Through this I confirmed that Korean Buddhist literature did not influence the methodologies of general literature research, but that various methodological issues were reflected in individual research papers. Based on studies of methodologies conducted since 2000, I suggested textual criticism, comparative literature and the psychological approach as methodologies that may contribute to the revitalization of research in this area. Today’s major trend in Buddhist studies is to inquire into the literary character of Buddhist scriptures.
Another trend is that this research is only on texts translated and created since Buddhism arrived in Korea. Therefore I suggest that to integrate these two trends we should find texts suitable to both these research trends and execute joint interpretation, translation, and analysis. |
