| 抄録 | 병고 고익진 선생은 학문에 대한 진지한 자세와 열정으로 후배와 제자들에게 훌륭한 본보기를 보여준 분이다. 본고에서는 선생의 한국불교사상사와 관련된 연구성과를 정리하여 살펴보았다.
첫째, 선생의 연구분야는 한국불교사상사의 거의 모든 분야에 골고루 걸쳐 있었는데, 한반도에서 불교가 활짝 꽃을 피운 삼국 및 통일신라시대에 대해서 가장 연구를 활발하게 하였다.
둘째, 선생의 논문은 빈틈없고 치밀하게 증거를 하나하나 제시하며 논리를 전개하였는데, 이것은 한국불교전서를 편찬하기 위한 자료를 다루는 과정에서 요구되는 치밀함에서 비롯된 것으로 보인다.
셋째, 선생은 한국불교사상사에 발생한 사건이나 교설 혹은 흐름들을 이해하는데, 그 사회적인 배경을 중요하게 고려하고 있는데, 이와 같은 이해방식은 불교와 관련하여 다각도로 벌어지는 수많은 사건이나 현상들에 대한 가장 현실적인 방법이 아닌가 한다.
넷째, 선생이 평가한 원효의 기신론사상은 일심이문으로 중관사상과 유식사상을 회통하고 진속원융무애를 전개한 것이다. 그리고 금강삼매경론은 이것을 실천할 수 있는 수행론이라고 할 수 있다.
Prof. Ko is a model for his successor due to his sincere attitude and passion on the Buddhist studies. This paper surveys his achievements in the field of Korean Buddhism.
First of all, while his research reaches the full field of Korean Buddhism, he focuses on the era of the Three Kingdoms which is the period of prosperity in Korean Buddhism. He writes the articles very clearly and logically, supporting the proofs and evidences one by one. And depending on the social background, he understands the Buddhist teachings and Buddhist events in the history of Korean Buddhism.
Moreover, Wonhyo’s thoughts on the Treatise on the Awakening of Mahayana Faith, which is evaluated by Prof. Ko, harmonizes the thoughts of Middle Way and the thoughts of Consciousness-only and interpenetrates the true world and the common world. And based on the thoughts of the treatise, Wonhyo’s thoughts on the Vājrasamādhi Sūtra estimated by him systemize the steps of cultivation. |
