| 抄録 | 본 고찰은 최근 40년간의 근현대 불교 분야의 연구 성과 및 동향을 조망하고, 앞으로의 연구과제를 개괄적으로 정리한 글이다. 그 대상은 주로 한국에서의 연구 성과를 초점으로 하였다.
한국불교사에서 근현대 분야는 최근 괄목한 연구 성과를 내고 있다. 그러나 20년 전만 해도 이 분야는 연구의 황무지이었다. 그래서 연구자도 적었고, 연구성과도 빈약하였다. 학문적인 대상으로 설정되지 않았다. 그러나 최근 학계, 교단 및 사찰, 문중 및 문도 등 다양한 곳에서 이 분야 연구의 추동이 활발하다. 이런 추세는 이 분야에 대한 성찰, 비평 작업을 요구한다.
이런 배경하에서 본 고찰에서는 다음과 같이 연구 흐름을 대별하였다. 그리고 그 기간 내의 성과물을 제시하였다. 이것은 연구의 가설이다. 이를 통해 근현대 불교 연구에 대한 흐름, 성격을 살펴보았다. 첫째, 1973~1992년을 근현대 불교 연구의 맹아기로 구분하였다. 이 시기에 『만해 한용운 전집』의 발간, 백용성 연구 시작, 삼보학회의 『한국불교 최근 100년사』 편찬을 위한 자료 수집 활동으로 연구가 시작되었다고 보았다. 둘째, 1993~2000년을 근현대 불교 연구의 개척기로 봤다, 이는 임혜봉의 『친일불교론』의 출간, 그리고 그에 반응하였던 다수 연구자 및 승가단체들의 참여를 그 근거로 하였다. 셋째, 2000년 이후를 근현대 불교 연구의 심화기로 보았다. 이는 그 무렵에 각 종단 및 사찰, 문중 및 문도 등 다양한 분야에서 연구가 속출함을 그 근거로 본 것이다.
이런 전제하에서 유의할 문제로 종교성과 학문성의 충돌, 연고 승가 및 승려와의 관계성, 보편적 불교와 한국불교 간의 조화, 보편성과 민족성의 충돌, 전체 자료와 일부 자료간의 부조화를 제시했다. 또한 이 분야 연구에서 노정되는 과장, 단정, 홀대, 호교성, 우호성, 감정성, 의도성, 편협성도 중요하다고 봤다. 이 연구가 추후 이 분야 연구에 참고가 되길 기대한다.
This dissertation is for looking at research performance and trend of the field of modern Buddhism for recent 40 years, and a writing generalizing research tasks for future.
I focused on the research performance mainly in Korea, as the subject for this study. The modern area in the history of Korea Buddhism has been producing excellent research results recently. But 20 years ago, this field was a wild land to study. So, lack of researchers and poor research performances. It couldn't be set as an academic study.
However, in recent years, many vibrant studies in this area are being done in various places, academia, religious order and temples, religious families and disciples etc. This sort of drift asks for the work of introspection, criticism about this field.
Under such a circumstance, I examined the research flow as follows. And suggested the output made during the time of study. This is the hypothesis of research.
I looked into the character, flow of modern Buddhism research through it. First, from 1973 to 1992, I classified it as embryo time of modern Buddhism research. At this time, I saw that researches had been started to study with publication of Manhae Yongun-Han's collected works, the start to study of Yongseong-Baek, and the activity to collect materials for publishing 『Korea Buddhism Recent 100years』 of Sambo Society.
Second, from 1993 to 2000, I considered it as reclamation period. It was based on the sources of publication of Haebong-Im's pro-Japanese Buddhism theory, and the participation of many researchers and sanha groups who reacted on it.
Third, since 2000, I considered it as the intensified period of modern Buddhism research. It was based on the appearance of researches from various fields at that time, religious order and temples, religious family and disciples etc.
Under this premise, I suggested the collision with religionism and disciplinarity, relationship with related Sangha and monks, the harmony between general Buddhism and Korea Buddhism, the collision with universality and ethnicity, and incongruity between the whole materials and partial materials, as the points we have to pay attention. And also, I thought exaggeration, conclusion, mistreatment, compatibility, affinity, emotionity, intentionity, and provincialism as
significant points exposured in this area.
I look forward to having this research as reference in this field. |
