| 抄録 | 우리나라의 袈裟와 관련해서는 형태와 양식적인 특징, 및 각 宗團別 가사의 특징과 재작방법에 관한 연구가 진행되었다. 그러나 한국의 전통가사에서만 나타나 보이는 日·月光과 天·王紋의 문화배경에 관해서는 그 상징과 의미파악이 통일성에까지 이르지 못하고 있는 면이 있다.
전통가사는 붉은 비단으로 된 儀式服으로 인도불교의 일상복 개념과는 관점 자체가 완전히 다르다. 이는 가사의 양식적인 특징에 강한 상징성이 내포될 수 있는 개연성을 상정케 한다. 이와 같은 인식적 접근을 기초로 필자는 제Ⅱ장에서 일·월광의 來源이 수미산 우주론과 관련되며, 그 세부적인 상징성은 인도불교적인 관점 보다는 중국문화적인 측면이 수용되고 있다는 점에 대해서 밝혀 보았다. 그리고 이 중 月光의 상징으로 토끼가 일반화되게 되는 것은 불교적인 영향이 작용했기 때문임을 분명히 하였다.
다음으로 제Ⅲ장을 통해서는 天·王紋이 단순히 불교 우주론의 사천왕만을 상징하는 것이 아니라, 중국문화배경 속의 君主權과도 관련됨에 대해서 정리하였다. 이는 불교의 중국적 전개가 동반하는 중국불교라는 특수한 코드와도 일치되는 것으로 매우 중요한 측면이라고 하겠다.
끝으로 마지막 제Ⅳ장에서는 한국 전통가사의 특수성에 내포된 불교사상적 배경에 대해서 정리하였다. 주지하다시피, 華嚴과 法華는 동북아의 대승불교 발전과 전개에 있어서 2대 軸이 되는 사상이다. 그러므로 이를 통한 해법 제시는 한국 전통가사의 특수성에 대한 변증이 되는 동시에 그상징적 우수성을 드러낼 수 있는 의미심장한 측면이라고 하겠다. 즉, 이를 통해서 우리의 전통가사는 비로소 불교사상을 여의지 않는 우리만의 특수성을 확보할 수가 있게 되는 것이다. 또한 이러한 접근은 전통가사 속에 내재하는 붓다를 향한 수행자의 간절한 바람에 대해서도 읽어 볼 수가 있다는 점에서 의미가 확보한다고 하겠다.
There have been lots of studies on the Korean monk robe,especially on the characteristics of its style and shape, the features of monk robes in each denomination and their manufacturing methods. But, there still has been no unification of opinions in the symbolism and the meaning of sun/moon beams and sky/king letter patterns which appear only in Korean traditional robes along with their cultural background.
The traditional monk robe is the ritual garment made of red silk,which is totally different from the daily clothes of Indian Buddhism in its concept. It implies a possibility to contain a strong symbolism in its style. Based on this cognitive approach, the author tried to show in Chapter II that the sun/moon patterns originated from the Sumer Mt. cosmology and that the detailed symbolism is containing the aspect of Chinese culture rather than that of Indian Buddhism.
Especially, it was clearly mentioned among them that the rabbit was generalized as the symbol of moon light because of the Buddhist influence.
Next, in Chapter III, it was explained that literal patterns of sky/king(天·王) symbolizes not just the Four Devas(heavenly kings)in the Buddhist cosmology but is related with the royal power in Chinese cultural background. It is a very important aspect in that it matches with the special code as Chinese Buddhism accompanied with Chinese dispersion of Buddhism.
Finally, the Buddhist ideological background in the peculiarity of Korean traditional robe was described in Chapter IV. As well known,Avatamsaka Idea and Saddharma-puṇḍarīka Idea are two axes in the development and the distribution of Mahayana in Northeast Asia.
Therefore, the presentation of the solution through them is very significant because it may become a demonstration for the peculiarity of Korean traditional robe and shows its symbolic excellence. That is, Korean traditional monk robe can represent our own peculiarity which did not desert Buddhist ideas at last. Furthermore, this approach can acquire the meaning in that the ardent desire of the ascetic toward Buddha can be read even in the traditional robe. |
