| 抄録 | 본 논문에서 논자는 『앗타살리니(Atthasālinī)』에서 발견되는 마띠까(mātikā) 해석방법을 검토했다. 『앗타살리니』는 『담마상가니(Dhammasaṅgaṇi)』가 복잡하게 나열한 마띠까들을 체계적으로 해석하기 위해, 세 가지 주석방법을 도입한다.
첫 번째 작업은 마띠까를 구성하고 있는 개별항목들을 바탕으로 마띠까에 명칭(nāma)을 부여하는 것이다. 이 작업을 통해 마띠까들은 저마다의 특징을 드러내는 명칭을 갖게 되며, 단순한 목록나열에서 벗어나 분석과 해석의 대상이 된다.
두 번째 작업은 개별 마띠까들을 집합(gocchaka) 단위로 재배열하는 것이다. 『담마상가니』는 장황하게 나열되어 있는 2묶음 마띠까들을 의미집합으로 범주화했는데, 이는 마띠까들의 상위 마띠까를 재설정하는 작업이었다. 그러나 『담마상가니는 이 집합들이 어떠한 의미를 지니고 있으며 왜 설정되었는지에 대해서는 별다른 언급을 하지 않았다. 이에 Asl는 각각의 집합들에 전제된 해석학적 의도를 명시해줌으로써 원전의 의미를 보다 명확히 드러내주었다.
세 번째 작업은 마띠까의 적용 가능한 범위(padesa)를 구분하는 것이다. 여기서 『앗타살리니』는 모든 마띠까들을 ‘제한적인 것(sappadesa)’, 즉 일부 법들에게만 적용되는 것과 ‘제한이 없는 것(nippadesa)’, 즉 모든 법들에게 적용 가능한 것으로 구분한다. 이러한 분류작업은 마띠까 자체에 대한 해석은 물론, 초기 논서의 복잡한 논의구조를 체계적으로 이해할 수 있도록 도와준다.
This article examines the hermeneutical perspectives found in the mātikā commentary of the Atthasālinī. The first abhidhamma book Dhammasaṅgaṇi enumerates a series of dhamma list (mātikā) in its prologue. Given that this list is arranged without any further descriptions, the Atthasālinī exposes its implied structures and composes a commentarial methodology for understanding the list.
Firstly, the Atthasālinī puts a title (nāma) for each lists. The titles are made by their compositions (dhamma). For examples, if the list has three compositions as the wholesome (kusala), unwholesome (akusala) and undeterminate (avyākata) dhamma, it comes to be titled as its first member, namely ‘the wholesome triplet.’
Secondly, the Atthasālinī adds fifteen groups (gocchaka) by which the titles are subordinate. Especially, the couplet lists are rearranged by these fourteen groups.
Lastly, the triplet and couplet lists are designated ‘specific (sappadesa)’ or ‘unspecific (nippadesa).’ It depends on whether the lists have a limited specification or encompass all dhammas without any particular specification. For example, the wholesome triplet is ‘unspecific’ since every dhamma must be one of its categories, namely the wholesome, unwholesome or indeterminate. |
