| 抄録 | 본 논문은, ‘진실한 불제자(佛弟子)를 미륵(彌勒)과 같다.’라고 하는 신란의 주장이 무엇을 의도하는지에 대하여 살펴보았다.
신란은 『무량수경』에서의 경문(經文)을 인용하여, 본원력회향(本願力回向)의 신심(信心)으로 현생정정취(現生正定聚)의 불퇴전지위(不退轉地位)를 획득한 염불자를 ‘미륵과 같은’ 일생보처의 지위와 같다고 하였다. 또한 본원력에 대한 신심을 획득한 횡초(橫超)의 금강심(金剛心)으로 중생을 제도하는 염불인이, 바로 미륵과 같은 진정한 불제자라고 하였다. 곧 진불자란, 현생현토(現生現土) 가운데 ‘종과향인(從果向因)’하여 일체중생이 모두 성불하는 그 순간까지, 미륵과 같이 일생보처의 지위에 머물러 중생구제의 대비행을 멈추지 않는 염불인(念佛人)이라는 것이다.
미륵부촉과 관련하여서도, 신란은 오탁악세의 말법중생일지라도, ‘일체중생의 성불이 곧 자신의 성불’이라고 하는 ‘대승적(大乘的) 본원(本願)에 대한 신심(信心)’을 획득한 자라면, 신앙대상이 무엇이든, 어느 시대에 누가 되든 상관없이 이들 모두는 석존의 부촉을 받은 ‘진불자’라고 하였다. 그는 일체 중생을 위하여 불법(佛法)을 전하는 진불자이기 때문이다.
따라서 신란이 미륵을 진불자와 같다고 한 것은, 그의 대승적 구제원리에 의하여, 미륵과 같이 염불자를 일체 중생에게 불법(佛法)을 전하는 진불자로 정의하기 위해서 였음을 확인할 수 있었다.
This article is to examine about Shinran's argument that a Truthful Buddhist is the same as Maitreya Bodhisattva.
Citing the Larger Pure Land Sutra, Shinran said that Pure Land practitioners who obtained Non-retreatable Stage of the practice of proper concentration in this life based on the entrusting mind of retribution of Original Vows Power were the same as Maitreya Bodhisattva who was supposed to be Buddha in his next life.
It was also said that Pure Land practitioners saving sentient beings by the Diamond Mind of Sudden Salvation (Ocho) who attained the entrusting mind on the Power of Original Vows would soon be Truthful Buddhists like Maitreya Bodhisattva. In other words, a Truthful Buddhist is a Pure Land practitioner who has never stopped practicing the great compassion to save sentient beings, remains in stage of being supposed to be Buddha in his next life like Maitreya, and transforms their practice of accomplishment to make all sentient beings attain their Buddhahood among this life and this land.
Shinran assured based on the entrustment of Maitreya Bodhisattva that sentient beings of the degenerated days living in an evil period polluted with five defilements, everyone who got an entrusting mind for Mahayanist Original Vows which equate his accomplishment of Buddhahood with accomplishment of Buddhahood for all sentient beings, anyone who respects any object of veneration, and any being in any period, all of the abovementioned beings should be Truthful Buddhists who are subject to receiving Sakyamuni Buddha's entrustment. He is subjected to be a Truthful Buddhist who delivers the teachings of Buddha for all sentient beings.
Therefore, Shinran said that Maitreya is the same as a Truthful Buddhist. Upon Mahayanist salvation principle, he could verify that a Pure Land practitioner like Maitreya is defined as a Truthful Buddhist delivering the teachings of Buddha to all sentient beings.
