| 抄録 | 본고는 經題에서 이미 보살이 행해야 할 만법을 밝히고 있음을 표방하고 있는 능엄경에 나타난 보살도를 고찰한 것이다. 경은 보살을 ‘깨달음을 얻기 전에 중생을 구제하기 위하여 노력하는 사람’으로 정의하고, 그 보살의 수행방편으로서 四種律儀 수지라는 自力的 수행법과 三寶의 가피력에 의지하는 능엄주 지송이라는 타력적 수행법을 들고 있다. 보살의 실천수행도로서는 25원통의 실천, 특히 관세음보살의 耳根圓通 실천과 사마타ㆍ삼마ㆍ선나의 선정실천을 주장함으로써 타력적인 보살신앙과 자력적인 보살수행을 서로 회통하고 있다. 보살의 수행계위로는 대소승의 모든 계위를 통틀어 가장 방대한 55위를 제시하고 있다. 이와 같은 능엄경 보살도의 가장 큰 특징은 어려운 계율수지 및 修禪法과 쉬운 능엄주 지송 및 관음보살의 耳根圓通 실천을 회통시켜 대승보살의 실천수행 효과를 극대화한 것이라고 본다.
Śūraṅgamasūtra(楞嚴經) is said to be the best Dhyāna-scripture which covers all the important Buddha Teachings-C’ien-t’ai(天台), Huayen(華嚴), Esoteric Buddhism(密敎) and Zen Buddhism(禪宗).
In Śūraṅgamasūtra the bodhisattva is defined as a being who makes a great effort in order to save all the people before acquiring enlightenment. And it explains very systematically what the bodhisattvas have to do in the course of bodhisattvas’ practices. It insists that bodhisattvas should carry out four kinds of Vinaya(四種律儀), recitation of Śūraṅgama-samādhi-dhāraṇī(楞嚴呪), twenty five Won Tong(二十五圓通) and zen(śamatha, samāpata, dhyāna). E-Ken-Won -Tong(耳根圓通) by which Avalokitesvara enlightened is said to be the best method among twenty five Won Tong. Because hearing sense has the most sensibility among six sense organs.
Śūraṅgamasūtra takes Śrāvaka-yāna(聲聞乘) and Boddhisattva-yana(菩薩乘) into Eka-yāna(一乘), harmonizing and consolidating three vehicles(三乘). Therefore Śūraṅgamasūtra may fairy be called Dhyāna-scripture that penetrates Mahāyāna(大乘) and Hīnayāna(小乘), Exoteric Buddhism(顯敎) and Esoteric Buddhism(密敎). In the process of Bodhisattvas’ discipline, Śūraṅgamasūtra describes 55 stages including 42 stages of Avatamsaka sūtra(華嚴經).
Śūraṅgamasūtra makes clear the origin of man and the world. It puts together difficult ascetic exercises and easy recitation of dhāraṇī, realizing the aim of Mahāyāna bodhisattvas perfectly-above to seek bodhi, below to save all(上求菩提, 下化衆生). |
