| 抄録 | 『기신론』 「수행신심분」에서는 ‘믿음’과 ‘수행’을 설명하는데, 그 중심에는 ‘중생심’ 즉 ‘일심’이 있다. 본고는 『기신론』 「수행신심분」에서 설해진 네 가지 믿음과 다섯 가지 수행을 주석서인 『원효소』․『법장소』․『석론』의 해석과 함께 살펴보고, 이것이 현대에서 어떻게 실현되는지를 원효를 나침반으로 삼은 태공 월주의 행적과 사상에 중점을 두고 조명하였다.
태공 월주는 <경제정의실천시민연합>․<실업극복국민운동본부>․<우리민족서로돕기운동>․<지구촌공생회> 등 다방면에서 활발하게 보형행과 자비행을 펼쳤는데, 「수행신심분」의 다섯 가지 수행으로 해석해보면 시문과 진문에 관계되어 있다. 우선 시문으로는 깨끗한 식수․식량․의약품․학용품과 같은 물질의 공급, 의료진․교육자․기술자 등의 인력과 기술 제공, 교육기관의 건립 등이 있다[재시]. 또한 사회․경제적 취약층의 위핍과 액난을 극복할 수 있도록 도운 것도 포함된다[무외시]. 다음으로 진문에는 태공 월주가 타인의 고통을 덜어주기 위해 선을 지향한 것[근용정진], 어떤 어려움이 가로막아도 멈추지 않고 사회 활동을 통한 보현행을 행하고자 노력한 것[난괴정진], 자신의 수행과 사회의 이익 모두를 중시한 것[무족정진]이 해당된다.
이러한 태공 월주의 사회 활동은 공생관을 바탕으로 하는데 「수행신심분」의 네 가지 믿음과 관련이 깊다. 특히 첫 번째의 ‘일심’ 즉 진여를 믿는 ‘근본을 믿는 것’은 ‘천지여아동근 만물여아일체’와 ‘동체대비’로, 네 번째의 ‘승은 바르게 자리와 이타를 수행할 수 있다고 믿는다’는 ‘귀일심원 요익중생’과 ‘자각각타 각행원만’으로 표현되었다. 여기에서 그가 강조한 ‘천지여아동근 만물여아일체’, ‘동체’, ‘귀일심원’은 바로 『기신론』에서 「입의분」의 ‘중생심’과 「해석분」의 ‘진여’ 즉, ‘일심’이다. 그러므로 태공 월주의 사회 활동을 이끈 보현행과 자비행은 『기신론』 일심에 근원을 두는 수행의 현대적 표현으로 해석할 수 있다.
Two things, “faith” and “practice”, are explained in the part entitled “Aspect of Practice and the Attitude of Faith 修行信心分” of the Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith 大乘起信論. Then the concept “one mind 一心” is at the center of them. This study examines the four kinds of faith 四信 and five practices 五行 in the part of “Aspect of Practice and the Attitude of Faith,” along with the interpretation of the commentaries of the Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith: Wŏnhyo's 元曉 Gisillon so 起信論疏, Fazang's 法藏 Qixinlun shu 起信論疏, and Shi moheyan lun 釋摩訶衍論. In addition, two things, how they are practiced in modern times and what is the original thought of them, are highlighted with a focus on Ven. T'aegong Wŏlchu (1935-2021).
Social activities of T'aegong Wŏlchu such as the Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice, the Korean Sharing Movement, the Good Hands for Global are related to giving 施 and effort 進 of five practices. The view of symbiosis 共生 underlying T'aegong Wŏlchu’s social activities are connected with the four kinds of faith of the Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith. He emphasized ideas such as “the heaven and earth is the same root with me and all things are the same body with me 天地與我同根 萬物與我一體” and “same essence 同體”, “return to the origin of mind 歸一心源.” Then they correspond to the faith in thusness 根本, the Dharma 法, and the saṃgha 僧, that is “the mind of sentient beings 衆生心” and “one mind.” Therefore, the practices of Samantabhadra 普賢 and compassion 慈悲 of T'aegong Wŏlchu and its ideological base are expressed in the idea “one mind” of the Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith in modern society.
