| 抄録 | 본 논문은 ‘중국불교’를 형성하고 전개시킨 수많은 ‘다른 많은 동력인들’ 중의 하나로서 ‘신라불교’ 나아가 ‘한국불교’의 문제를 다루었다. 달리 말한다면, 7~10세기 한국불교가 중국불교의 전개에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는가 하는 문제를, 신라불교인들의 중국 내에서의 활동양상과 해동불교문헌의 중국으로의 역수출과 영향이라는 측면에서 검토한 것이다. 7세기를 지나면서 신라불교는 중국불교의 수용자라는 일방적인 입장을 탈피하였다. 여전히 다방면에 걸친 중국불교의 성과를 수용하는데 적극적이었지만, 역으로 신라불교의 성과 역시 중국불교에 영향을 미치기 시작했기 때문이다. 이들 문제를 검토한 결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있을 것 같다. 첫째, 7~10세기에 이르는 동안 실크로드 동단에 있어서 불교문화의 교류는 장안-경주를 축으로 하는 선에서 점차 중국 연해지방과 한국을 잇는 축선으로 변화해간다는 점이다. 이것은 唐의 쇠퇴로 인한 육상 실크로드의 약화와 더불어 지속적으로 확대되어 오던 해상실크로드의 강화와 연관이 되어있는 것으로 생각된다. 둘째, 7세기까지만 하더라도 불교중국의 성장에 대한 능동적 참여자의 위치가 강했던 해동불교가 후대로 내려갈수록 중국불교와 서로 상호보완의 관계를 형성해간다는 점이다. 이것은 문화의 교류에 있어서 일면 당연한 결과인 것으로도 이해된다. 셋째, 동일한 한문문화권이라는 측면에서 기인하는 문제인지는 모르겠지만, ‘불교중국’의 전개라는 측면에 있어서 해동 불교인들의 활동은 여타 다른 외국 불교보다 압도적으로 능동적인 참여자였으며, 그 결과 10세기를 전후하여 편찬된 중국 불교의 역사서에 신라 혹은 고려 출신 승려들의 전기가 본격적으로 입전되기 시작한다는 점은 새삼 지적되어야 할 것이다. 중국불교에 대한 해동불교(海東佛敎)의 영향력이 절정에 달하였던 것은 12세기 말의 의천(義天)이 교장(敎藏)을 간행하던 시기였지만, 이미 그 이전에도 해동불교는 중국불교의 피동적인 참여자가 아니라 능동적인 참여자였고, 불교문화에 있어서도 일반적인 수용이 아닌 상호영향관계가 성립되어 있었다.
This dissertation covers the issue of ‘Shilla Buddhism’, or ‘Korean Buddhism’ as one of many other efficient causes that had formed and developed Chinese Buddhism. In other words, it studies about how Korean buddhism in 7th to 10th century had helped developing Chinese buddhism in the aspect of the activities of Shilla buddhists in China, and the reexport of Haedong(Korean) Buddhism literature and its influence to China.
After the 7th century, Shilla Buddhism was no longer a mere recipient of Chinese Buddhism. They were still active about accepting multifaceted outcomes of Chinese Buddhism, but the outcomes of Shilla also started to have effect on Chinese Buddhism since that time. The results from reviewing this issue can be abstracted as follows.
First, during the 7th to 10th century in the eastern end of silk road, the pivot of the exchange of buddhist culture was gradually moving from the line of Jangan and Gyeongju to the line of coastal region of China and Korea. This is considered to be the result of the decline of the Tang(唐) which led the overland silk road to undermine, and the reinforcement of the oversea silk road which was continuously expanding.
Second is that Haedong buddhism which was an active participant in developing ‘Buddhism China(佛敎中國)’ until 7th century started build a complementary relationship with Chinese buddhism after. In the aspect of cultural exchange, this could be understood as a corollary result.
Thirdly, this could be a result from the aspect that both were in the same chinese-letter cultural area, but considering the aspect of the development of ‘Buddhism China’, Haedong buddhist's activities were overwhelmingly active unlike other foreign buddhism. For that reason Chinese buddhism history written before and after 10th century started to contain biographies of monks from Shilla or Goryeo. This is an important issue that should be pointed out.
The influence of Haedong Buddhism on Chinese Buddhism reached its peak in late 12th century when Uicheon published collections of annotations of buddhist scriptures. However, Haedong Buddhism was already an active participant before then, and was in an reciprocal relation with China in buddhist culture.
