| 抄録 | 본 고찰은 전라북도 유명 사찰인 내장사의 사격과 근대 고승에 대한 상관성을 다룬 글이다. 내장사는 단풍 사찰로 널리 알려졌으면서도 내장사의 역사와 문화를 조명한 학술적인 접근은 부재하였다. 그래서 필자는 이 글에서 근대기에 내장사와 연고를 가졌던 고승을 통하여 내장사의 사격, 특성, 문화를 살피고자 한다. 사찰은 불교의 신앙, 문화 활동을 하는 공간이다. 이런 활동은 사찰의 승려, 신도들이 추진하지만 고승은 사찰의 다양한 연고자들을 이끌고, 활동을 조율하는 주역이다. 그래서 고승 연구는 사찰의 역사 및 문화를 이해하는 첩경의 주제이다. 이런 배경에서 필자는 이 글에서 첫째, 내장사 근대 고승인 백학명에 대해 집중적으로 다루고자 한다. 백학명은 교학과 선사상을 겸비한 고승이었고, 참선하면서 농사를 짓는 불교를 실천하였으며, 내장사 불교공동체를 진두지휘한 인물이었다. 이런 행보를 한 백학명의 행적을 내장사와 연결시켜 살피려고 한다. 둘째, 근대기 최고의 불교계 학자이었던 박한영과 내장사 연고를 살핀다, 셋째, 백양사 출신이지만 내장사 선원에서 새로운 불교를 실천한 금타에 대해 살피고자 한다. 이런 흐름에서 나온 이 글이 내장사, 사격, 근대고승 등의 연구에 도움이 되기를 기대한다. 또한 전라북도 불교문화의 새로운 이해에도 참고되길 바란다.
This review is an article dealing with the relationship between the status of Najangsa(內藏寺), a famous temple in Jeollabuk-do, and the modern high priests. Although Naejangsa Temple was widely known as a temple of autumn leaves, there was no academic approach to the history and culture of Naejangsa Temple. So, in this article, I would like to examine the status, characteristics, and culture of Naejangsa through a high priest who had a connection to Naejangsa in the modern era. A temple is a space for Buddhist faith and cultural activities. These activities are promoted by the monks and believers of the temple, but the high priest leads the temple's various associates and coordinates the activities. Therefore, the study of ancient monks is the subject of a path to understanding the history and culture of temples. In this context, I will first focus on the modern high priest Baek Hak-myeong(白鶴鳴) of Naejangsa Temple in this article. Baek Hak-myeong was a high priest who had both teaching and prehistoric ancestry, practiced Buddhism in farming while meditation, and commanded the Buddhist community of Naejangsa Temple. Baek Hak-myeong, who took such a move, is trying to connect with Naejangsa. Second, I will look at Han-young Park(朴漢永), the best Buddhist scholars in the modern period, and Naejangsa Temple. Third, I would like to look at Geumta(金陀), who was from Baekyangsa but practiced new Buddhism at Naejangsa Temple. I hope this article from this trend will be helpful in research on Naejangsa, Status, and modern high priests. Also, I hope it will be referred to for a new understanding of Buddhist culture in North Jeolla Province.
