| 抄録 | 본 논문은 현행 생전예수재(生前豫修齋) 설행의 특징 중에서 돈과 관련된 의례 절차를 분석하고, 의례 형식의 상징이 내용의 정당성을 어떻게 담보하는지를 분석한다. 예수재 설행의 형식면에서 보면, 여타의 다른 재의례에서 볼 수 없는 특이점은 함합소(緘合疏)로 상징되는 금은전(金銀錢)이다. 예수재의 설행에 앞서 의례에 사용될 수생전(壽生錢)을 제조하는 금은전 조전(金銀錢 造錢) 행위와 이를 점안(點眼)하고 그것을 단에 올리는 이운(移運)하는 절차가 먼저 행해진다. 생전예수재를 전생의 빚을 갚는 행위라고 해석하든, 내생의 빚을 미리 갚는다고 해석하든 어느 경우에도 인간의 삶, 그 자체가 부채를 수반할 수밖에 없다는 것을 상징적으로 나타낸다. 돈과 함합소는 빚을 갚는 행위의 형식적 상징이며, 수행은 내용적 상징을 내포한다. 이와 같이 인간의 삶을 빚을 진 것으로 해석하고, 이를 변재하는 것을 의례로 승화시킨 사례는 고대 인도인의 사유에서도 찾아 볼 수 있다. 인도 사유에서 인간이 신과 성현과 조상, 타인과, 유정에 이르기까지 빚을 지고 태어나며, 이것을 일생동안 갚아가는 행위가 바로 제의의 이행이다. 이를 이행하는 행위를 ‘오대제’(五大祭 panca-mahā-yajñas)라고 한다. 초기불교에서 붓다가 설하는 의례에 대한 기본적인 시각을 탐구하고, 의례와 수행의 관계성을 분석한다. 붓다에게 의례는 단순한 제의뿐만 아니라, 공양과 보시, 삼귀의, 오계 수지 등의 가르침에 대한 직접적 실천으로 그 영역이 확대되며, 이는 종국에 선정 수행을 통한 해탈의 성취를 지향하게 된다. 즉 붓다의 의례는 제의적 실천뿐만 아니라 수행의 실천을 포괄하는 의미로 확대된다.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the ritual procedures with regarding the symbol of money among the characteristics of current advance funeral ceremony. After then I explore how the symbol of ritual form can be justified the contents with doctrinal and ethical aspects. As a religious rite, advance funeral ceremony should be summarized as a real action in which individual experience or involvement can never be reduced. In addition, the periodic performance of the rite is not only the experience of communal but also experience of sacredness which is totally different from ordinary life. In terms of the theory of behavior, the rite requires vigorous action of the members, and in practice, it is not a simple literature-based theory but a multipart and various cultural realization. In terms of the phenomenal form of the rite, it can be founded an unique aspect that is the symbolic evidence to pay off debts with offering gold-silver mony made with papers. Prior to the main rituals, the moneys manufactures to be used in rituals, and the procedure of instilling eye drops and move it on the main stage. In the ritual, the moneys can be symbolized that a human life itself is bound to entail debt. These procedures are formal symbols of the act of paying off debts, and religious practice imply a symbol of the contents. In a similar case, it can also be found in ancient Indian religious rituals which is namely five-big-rituals(五大祭, panca-mahā-yajñas). According to this theory, a human being is born with five kinds of debts: about god, sage, ancestors, other people, and all kinds of being in the world. A human has to perform rituals in oder to pay his/her debts for life. This theory includes not only simple offerings but also ethical conduct. Therefore, one's act of paying debts becomes an obligation. The Buddha explains the connection between ritual and meditation in early Buddhism. For the Buddha, rituals are expanded not only to simple rituals, but also the direct practices of doctrinal teaching, such as offering, donation, practice of five forbidden etc. It is directly actual practices emphasized within Buddhist doctrines that ultimately aims to achieve liberation. In other words, the Buddha's ritual is expanded to encompass not only ritual practice but also practice of meditation. This is what advance funeral ceremony really means. |
