| 抄録 | 본 논문에서는 한국정토사상을 중심적으로 논하다가 보니 신라시대의 정토논소를 중심으로 분석하지 않을 수 없었다. 그 이유는 정토사상을 논한 정토관련 주석서가 신라시대의 자료뿐이라고 하는 한계성이 있었기 때문이다. 특히 본 논문에서는 정토수행이나, 정토신앙, 정토문화는 제외하고 오직 정토사상만을 중점적으로 분석하므로 한계성이 있었을 밝히고자 한다. 첫째, 한국 정토사상은 정토삼부경 중심으로 골고루 연구 되었다. 일부학자들이 한국은 『관무량수경』을 소흘히 하였다고 하는 점에는 동의하기 어렵다. 왜냐하면 신라시대의 대부분의 정토교가들은 정토삼부경을 골고루 다루고 있으나, 단지 현존하는 자료로는 『관무량수경』의 주석서가 남아있지 않을 뿐이다. 심지어 『반주삼매경』의 연구도 있었으며, 이러한 사상적인 기반위에 한국의 만일염불결사가 성립된 것으로 보인다. 둘째는 48대원을 중시하였다. 48대원의 호칭한 것은 정토사상의 일대변혁이라고 해도 지나치지 않을 정도이다. 이러한 원명의 호칭이 오늘날까지 한국불교에서는 장엄염불로 남아 널리 애송되고 있다. 즉 48대원이 의례화될 수 있도록 기여하였다고 보여진다. 셋째는 十念을 중시하였다. 특히 48대원 중에서도 제18원과, 제19원, 제20원을 중시하였으며, 이 중에서도 십념염불에 대한 여러 가지 해석을 하였다. 십념은 『무량수경』의 乃至十念과 『관무량수경』의 具足十念에 대하여 논사들에 따라서 그 해석법이 달랐다. 넷째는 唯心淨土 중심의 念佛禪을 중시하고 있다. 고려시대 이후 선불교의 번창으로 정토교학은 자취를 감추고, 선종에 흡수되어 선수행의 방편으로 행해지기도 하였다. 중국의 永明延壽의 염불선이 도입되어 오늘날까지 한국불교의 전반에 영향을 미치고 있음을 부정할 수 없다. 어찌보면 한국불교단 순한 선종이 아니라 염불선 중심의 法眼宗이라고 하여도 과언이 아니다. 이러한 점은 조선 淸虛休靜대에 까지 법안종의 염불선의 正法眼藏이 계승되어왔다. 다섯째는 정토교학과 신앙이 널리 유행되었음에도 불구하고 우리나라에서는 淨土宗 이라는 종파가 형성되지 못하였다. 이점은 서론에서 밝힌 바와 같이 정토사상과 신앙이 너무나 보편화되다가 보니 종파형성의 필요성을 느끼지 못하였던 것으로 보고 있다.
This thesis revolves around the idea of Pure Land dating back to the Shilla era in analyzing that in Korean Buddhism. Firstly, the idea has been researched a lot, centered around the Three Sutras of the Pure Land. It is hard to agree with those scholars who say Korea neglected the Amitāyur-dhyāna-sūtra, because it is just that the data and material remaining now rarely include the tome’s commentary, not that those followers of the idea during the era disregarded any of the three sutras. Moreover, it has been confirmed that there had been researches and studies on the Pratyutpanna-buddha-saṃmukhavasthita-samãdhi-sūtra. Those are thought to constitute Pure Land Buddhism of the country. Secondly, the idea has emphasized the 48 Great Wishes of Amitaba, whose denomination was truly a revolution of the idea. The song is still widely recited in Korea as a Buddhist prayer. Judging from this, it seems that the idea of Pure Land contributed to the 48 Great Wishes’ becoming part of Buddhist practice in Korea. Thirdly, the idea has focused on the Ten Thoughts and, especially, the 18th,19th and 20th among the 48 Great Wishes while giving avariety of interpretations of the Prayer of the Ten Thoughts. The interpretation of the Ten Thoughts differed depending on who interpreted it. Fourthly, the idea has aimed towards the invocatory Zen of the Mind-Only Pure Land. Since the Goryeo Dynasty, Zen Buddhism had prospered, driving out the study of the Pure Land or absorbing the idea as a way to practice Zen, until YongMing YanShou’s invocatory Zen found its way to Korea from China to influence Korean Buddhism up to now. In this vein, Korean Buddhism might not be a simple Zen Buddhism but one revolving around invocatory Zen. This peculiarity lasted until the Joseon Dynasty. Fifthly, Korean Buddhism could not see the sect of the Pure Land sect forming in spite of the wide-spread teachings and belief of the idea. It seems that was because of, as mentioned earlier, the belief’s and idea’s being too popular that stemmed a sect from forming. |
