| 抄録 | 본 연구는 신라원(新羅院) 곧 신라 불교사원이 재당(在唐) 신라인 사회에서 어떠한 기능과 역할을 하고 있었는지를 검토하려는 논문이다. 재당 신라인 사회에 대한 연구는 신라사 분야 혹은 나당 교류사 분야에서 최근 20여 년동안 새로운 연구 성과들이 축적되고 있는 분야이다. 특히 이 분야에 대한 연구의 중심 대상이 되었던 것은 엔닌의 『입당구법순례행기』의 연구이다. 신라방(新羅坊) 등 재당신라인 사회의 존재와 그 의미에 대한 연구는 선행연구에 의해서 다양한 측면의 검토가 이루어진 바 있다. 그러나 재당 신라인 사회의 구심점 역할을 하였으리라고 추정되는 신라원의 기능과 역할에 대한 연구는 거의 존재하지 않는다. 이것은 첫째로는 관련 사료의 부족 때문이고, 둘째로 그나마 존재하는 사료에서도 신라사원이 어떠한 기능을 하였는지에 대한 구체적인 정황을 보여주는 경우는 그리 많지 않기 때문이다. 본 연구는 이 사료의 부족분을 최근 발견된 신라원 관련 명문 및 재당 소그드족 사회에서 보이는 ?祠의 기능 등을 활용하여 신라원의 구체적인 기능에 대한 부분적이기는 하지만 보완적 해명을 시도하였다. 이를 통해서 신라원이 재당 신라인 사회 네트워크의 중심 기능은 물론 신라의 해외 네트워크로서의 기능도 가지고 있음을 해명하였다.
This article purports to investigate the role and function of the Sillawon, a Silla Buddhist temple, within the Silla society in the Dang Dynasty. As to study of the social structure of the Silla people in the Dang Dynasty, there has been a continuous accumulation of fresh research results for the last two decades in the fields of the history of Silla or the history of exchange between Silla and Dang dynasties. Especially, the research in this study has been mainly focused on the investigation of the Record of a Pilgrimage to China in Search of the Law (入唐求法巡禮行記) by Ennin (圓仁). The existence of Silla society in the Dang Dynasty such as Sillabang (新羅坊) and its significance have already been illuminated to a certain extent by previous studies from diverse perspectives. There has been no proper research on the role and function of the Sillawon, the allegedly central institution within the Silla society in the Dang Dynasty. This lack of research is due to the fact that the extant sources reveal hardly specific information about the function of the Silla Buddhist temple, in addition to the shortage of related sources. This article purports to overcome this shortage in illuminating the partial but specific function of the Sillawon by investigating the recently found inscriptions in relation with the Sillawon and the function of the Xianci (?祠) within the Sogdian society in the Dang Dynasty. This investigation reveals the central function of the Sillawon in the social network of the Silla society in the Dang Dynasty in addition to its function as an overseas network of the Silla Dynasty. |
