| 抄録 | 대승불교의 사상가인 나가르주나는 그의 주저 『근본중송』에서 대승불교의 근본사상인 연기=무자성=공에 대한 이론적인 체계를 명확히 하였다. 이것은 대승불교의 근본 가르침에 대한 체계적 이해를 도모한 것으로, 이러한 이론적 체계에 근거한 사상적 전개는 후대 티베트 최대종파인 게룩파의 개조이며 위대한 학승으로 간주되는 쫑카파에게서도 나타난다. 쫑카파는 그의 사상을 최초로 온전하게 드러낸 『보리도차제대론』의 <비파샤나장>에서 나가르주나가 강조한 무자성의 가르침을 ‘중관파 불공의 승법’이라고 부르고, 이를 실재론자와의 대론형태로 상세히 논술해간다. 이러한 무자성의 논증에는 세속적인 삶을 대변하는 연기의 개념이 중요한 원인으로 거론되어 연기를 논증인으로 하여 무자성을 증명하고, 이를 바탕으로 무자성인 공성을 확정하고 있다. 이러한 논술 속에 쫑카파는 자성의 유무를 논하는 것과 세속사물의 유무를 논하는 것은 구별해야한다고 강조한다. 나가르주나나 쫑카파에게서 나타나는 무자성의 논증은 대승불교의 중요한 사상적 입장을 나타내는 것으로, 이러한 입장을 생각해보면 동아시아에서 번역된 현장의 『반야심경』 한역본은 문제가 있다고 생각된다. 곧 『반야심경』의 범어원전에 명확하게 나타나는 자성이라는 말을 번역하지 않은 것으로, 이것은 대승불교의 입장을 명확히 반영하고 있는 『반야심경』의 입장을 오해할 여지가 있는 것이다. 적어도 대승경전으로서 『반야심경』을 이해하기 위해서는 무자성의 개념이 정확히 이해되어야 하리라 생각된다.
Nāgārjuna, the great philosopher of Mahāyāna Buddhism, clarified the theoretical system of the sameness theory of the meaning of Dependent-arising and the absence of Intrinsic existence and Emptiness in his main work, The Fundamental Treatise. This Nāgārjuna's critical stance is also reflected in Tsong-kha-pa, the founder of Tibetan's largest Buddist order, the Ge-lug-pa, and being regarded as the great Scholar monk. Tsong-kha-pa called the teachings of Non-Intrinsic existence the distinguishig teaching of Madhyamaka in Vipaśyanā chapter of Lam Rim Chen Mo, which first revealed his ideas in full, and wrote them in the form of a controversy with Realists. Tsong-kha-pa who accepts Nāgārjuna's position in Lam Rim Chen Mo, argues that the secular objects cannot be established as long as they acknowledge the concept of Intrinsic existence. In demonstrating Non-Intrinsic existence in Lam Rim Chen Mo, Tsong-kha-pa says that the concept of Dependent-arising, which represents the meaning of secular life, is mentioned as an important cause, proving Non-Intrinsic existence and Emptiness. Therefore Tsong-kha-pa emphasizes that the position of denying Intrinsic existence is different from denying the secular things. In the midst of this Non-Intrinsic existence argument, the position of two truths theory appears. The concept of Two truths theory is not specifically mentioned in Lam Rim Chen Mo, but it is implied while explaining the distinguishing teaching of Madhyamaka. By the way, the theory of Two truths is presented under the same name of Vipaśana chapter of Tsong-kha-pa’s Lam Rim Chung ba, which is published 13 years after Lam Rim Chen Mo. I think that it is an important part that shows the change of Tsong-kha-pa’s philosophical position. The demonstration of Non-Intrinsic existence in Nāgārjuna and Tsong-kha-pa represents the important philosophical position of Māhāyana Buddhism. Considering this position, I think that there is a problem that the word ‘Intrinsic existence’ does not appear in the Hsüan-tsang’s Chinese translatione of Heart Sutra. Hsüan-tsang did not translate the term ‘Intrinsic existence’ which is clearly seen in Sanskrit original version of Heart Sutra. At least, the concept of Non-Intrinsic existence seems to be understood in order to understand Heart Sutra correctly.
