| 抄録 | 국제불교문화학술회의(國際佛敎文化學術會議)는 1973년 제1회 대회를 개최한 이래 40년의 역사를 헤아리게 되었다. 일본의 불교대학(佛敎大學)과 한국의 원광대학교(圓光大學校) 사이에 체결된 학술교류협정에 의한 사업의 일환이다. 양 대학이 번갈아 개최하며 2009년까지 21회에 194편의 논고가 발표되었다. 양 대학의 학자가 주축이 되어 한일 양국의 학자들, 그리고 제 3국의 학자들이 모여 성전(盛典)을 이루어왔다.
학술회의는 제1회의 「불교의 현대화 방향」에서 제21회의 「불교와 평화」에 이르기까지 현대의 사회문제를 불교에 물어왔다. 이 가운데 불교의 본질과 전개, 한ㆍ일 양국 간의 문화교류, 불교교육과 불교계 대학의 역할 등 크고 작은 문제의식을 공유하게 되었다. 따라서 현대이후의 사회에 있어서 불교의 존재형태와 역할에 대해 논하고자 할 때는 이 학술회의의 역사를 주목할 필요가 있을 것이다.
양 대학 간에 학술교류협정을 맺고 이 학술회의의 기틀을 연 주인공들, 불교대학의 에타니 류카이(惠谷隆戒)ㆍ후지와라 료넨(藤原了然) 전 학장과 츠보이 슌에이(坪井俊映) 대회장, 원광대학교의 박길진 전 총장과 류병덕 대회장 등 양 대학 대표가 모두 고인이 되었다. 삼가 명복을 빌며, 그 결연의 정신과 유업의 계승을 기원하는 바이다. 학술회의는 양 대학 상호간에 지대한 영향을 주고받았다. 양 대학의 오늘의 발전상의 계기, 그리고 금후의 학술활동 방향을 이 학술회의 40년의 역사에서 찾아도 무리가 없으리라는 말이다.
The International Conference of Buddhist Culture was initiated its first conference in 1973 and continued almost 40 years. It is one of several projects of the academic exchange agreement made between Bukkyo University in Japan and Wonkwang University in Korea. The conferences were held alternately at both universities, and presented 194 articles until the 21st conference in 2009. In those conferences, not only scholars of the both universities, but also many scholars of Japan, Korea and other countries had attended and made flourished conferences.
The conferences have been asking to Buddhism on the matters of contemporary society, from“Direction of Modernization of Buddhism”at the first conference to“Buddhism and Peace”at the 21st one. The conferences have been shared consciousness on small and big matters, such as essence and development of Buddhism, Buddhist cultural exchange of the both countries, Buddhist education, role of Buddhist university, and so on. Therefore, on the occasion of discussion for the existence mode and role of Buddhism in modern society, the history of this conference has to be concerned seriously.
The protagonists made the academic exchange agreement and established the foundation of this conference, all of whom were deceased; they are former presidents of Bukkyo University Etani Ryukai and Hujiwara Ryonen, formaer president of Wonkwang University Park Gil-Jin, Prof. Tsuboi Shunei, and Prof. Ryu Byong-Deok. Paying respects to them, I wish continuous transmission of the spirit and legacy of affiliation. The conference has given innumerable influences to the both universities. In other words, we can find out the opportunities of development of the both universities from the 40 years history of this conference. |
