Thousand-Buddha,usually refer to Buddhas of the past,the present,and the future in the ten directions,particularly Buddha of the present existence,is a component of the faith in Mahayana Buddhism.Scriptures with which the idea is associated are in number and were turned into Chinese by different translators.Artistic representations in the Dunhuang Grottoes are many too,and are of various types and forms,encompassing the entire 1000 years’ history of Grotto construction in this location,and they constitute one major component of the Buddhist art in Dunhuang.The current paper attempted to analyze the phenomenon from the semiotic perspective their nature as signs and their classification,structure,and features and to explore their dependence on language and some rules of translation from verbal to pictorial expressions.
