There are two characteristics reflected distinctively in the newly translated Tibetan Tantric works in the Xixia times. One is that some of the Buddhist terms are mainly translated semantically, the other, the Chinese transcription of dharanīs shows the northwest Chinese dialect was in vogue in the Xixia region. The characteristics may be undoubtedly employed as the criterion,by which we can discern the original language according to the Buddhist terms on the one hand, and date some Chinese sūtras to Xixia version on the other, which used to be dated to the Song or Yuan times for no colophons. The persent paper comprehensively invesigates the characterisics of the Sanskrit-Chinese transcription in the Xixia version of dharanis, according to some Busshist works with definite colophons as Sheng Guanzizai Dabeixin Zongchi Gongneng Yijinglu,Shengxiang Dingzun Zongchi Yijinglu by Xixia monk Baoyuan and Mizhou Yuanyin Wangsheng Ji,pointing out that Manjusri-namasamgiti translated in the Xixia times.
