The interpretation system of “Wei Mo Chieh Scripture” -- including interpretation and opinions of “Wei Mo Chieh Scripture” from scripture translators and interpreters has complex disagreements in argument. Various perspectives of disagreement include: “Translation of scripture title”, “First rank to establish the name”, “Second rank to identify the person who made the argument”, “Transition from the first rank to the second rank”, “Distinguishing point between sequence differentiation and original school differentiation”, “Central figure to be determined by important discipline”, and “Number of places and frequency of meetings”; for answering these questions, interpreters all have different points of view. Why does the interpretation and opinions of “Wei Mo Chieh Scripture” have such a complexity? This is exactly the consciousness of the question in this thesis, which is also this thesis intends to answer. The hypothesis proposed by this thesis is that, due to different perspectives based upon Buddha or Wei Mo Chieh, the interpretation systems constructed are thus different. Such hypothesis may, to some degree, explain the complexity among interpretation systems of every school. Although literature review of interpreters does not clearly point out their viewpoints, their subjective perspectives based upon the central figure in every school are hidden inside; every interpretation system has internal unity concerning the determination of central figure. For example, the interpretation systems constructed by Hui Yuan, Hsuan Chuang, and Kuei Chi almost completely base on the Buddha while the interpretation framework by Chi Tsang centers on Wei Mo Chieh. The interpreters with similar perspectives would reach a better agreement for the interpretation of the same issue. Hence, this paper concludes that the complexity of various “Wei Mo Chieh Scriptures” interpretation comes from the “primary and secondary” issue. Once when the question of “primary and secondary” relationship is answered, the key to the difference of interpretation system is understood and clarified; relevant subjects are therefore possible to be resolved on a clear path.
