摘要 | 中國佛教的特色,是在把傳自印度的佛教的基本精神,融會了中國的儒家的倫理思想及道家的放任自然,所以用清規來替代戒律,以適應中國人的道德生活;以重視智慧的開發替代印度的禪觀,來誘導道家的放任自然. 因此,既不會因持戒而成桎梏的宗教工具,也不會因了活潑而成浪漫的放任主義者. 中國的禪者,雖不受傳統形式的束縛,在自在活潑的生活中,表現出精進清淨的修道精神,此也實即是釋 尊化世旳本懷.
The unique feature of Chinese Buddhism consists in the harmonious mergence of the fundamental spirit of Buddhism,which originally came from India, the ethical ideal of Confucianism,and following the course of nature as advocated by the Taoists. Thus, in order to adjust to the Chinese standard of a moral life,ch'ing-kuei (pure regulations for life in a monastic community) replaced the vinaya, and emphasis on the development of wisdom substituted Indian meditation and contemplation as a means of attracting the naturalness-inclined Taoists. In this way,keeping the rules did not become a shackle-like tool of religion,nor did vivacity turn into debauchery. Although traditional form was no bondage for the Chinese practitioner of ch'an,he manifested a vigorous and pure spirit of religious cultivation in his free and vivacious life. This is in true accordance with `Sakyamuni Buddha's` original intention of teaching men. |
