The contents of this paper is basically divided into four parts:
The first part dealt with the comparison of the status of the `Samadhi` Chapter and of the `Samahitabhumi` Chapter in their respective texts. Abhidharma-kosa used the narration of cause, affinity and effect of `samsara` and the extinction of `nirvana` to be its framework. With the Samadhi Chapter,it is through the relationship of cause and effect inquired into the status of this Chapter in `Abhidharma-kosa`. `Yogacara-bhumi` used seventeen bhumis to be the concept structure of state, practice and effect for sages of three yanas (三乘 ). This paragraph attempted to understand the position of samadhi in the whole of Buddhist thought from the relationship between state, practice, effect and cause, affinity, effect.
The second part gave an introduction to the framework of the two texts.
The third part dealt with a detailed discussion on the contents of the two texts.
The fourth part discussed the distinctive features of the two texts. `Abhidharma-kosa` was the work from Schismatic Buddhism, its one distinctive featurebeing the analysis of dharmakaya. In`Yogacara-bhumi`,the seventeen `bhumis` relate to the practice of dharma, here the emphasis is on the narration of the state of the mind and the practice of `samatha-vipasyana`. In this `sastra`,these characteristics are obviously apparent. Apart from this, the two Chapters hold contrary views in respect to the contents of the same `samadhi`,the eight `samadhi` and the "four infinite" are used to illustrate this point.
