Cave 14 in the Mogao Grottoes was dug in the period of Late tang.This Articlemainly gives a textual research to the story of the eleven faced Avalokitesvara painedon the south wall of Cave 14.On the picture,the eleven faced Avaloki tesvara is themain image,and on both sides lf it,are 19 little pictures.There are relalions and differ-ence between them.those little pictures were painted according to the Stura Shiyimian-shengzhou xinjing translated by Hsuan Tsan,the famous monk of Tang Dynasty.Besides the eleven faced Avalokitesvara,there also painted other stories lf MantraSact such as stories lf the thousandarmed Avalokitesvara,of thet housand-armed Man-jusri,of the Amoghapasa Avalokitesvara,of the Cintamanicakra and of the Vajra Aval-okitesvara,etc,they represented the flourishing development of the Mantra Sect ofDunhuang in the Late tang Period.But from its preliminary to its flourishing stage,the Mantra Sect had had a long historical experience
