摘要
A collection of articles of six prominenent scholars of Korean Buddhism on topics of Buddhism in the Koryo. This volume continues the project started some years ago to provide translations of articles dealing with the religions and culture of Korea. Here the editors focus on some important articles written about the Koryo/Korean dynasty, a most important era of Buddhism.
The editors note that "in the articles, we catch glimpses of Koryo Buddhism at its heights. It was a time when the religion made significant contributions to the development of Korean culture. Art and literature flourished under the support of the central government. Monasteries of great beauty were constructed and the monastic community was productive in philosophical discourse. The technology of printing was advancing at a rapid rate, making use of reverse image printing blocks. Korea was one of the great centers of Buddhist life in East Asia and this gave it prestige and recognition by surrounding states."
