This thesis studies the important implications in Zhu-hong’s Annotation and Zhi-xu’s Explication on the Smaller Sukhavatiryuha Sutra. Both these books were written in Ming Dynasty. Chapter Three of the thesis signifies the true implication of Amitabha Pure Land, that is “Amitabha is the only nature, the pure land is the only mind.” Chapter Four highlights the important factors in cultivation, that is the cultivation of faith, vow and practice. Chapter Five explains views and ways of recollecting the name of Buddha. Chapter Six explains the state of “one-minded and undisturbed” and it’s similarity with some terms used by other Pure Land masters. The result of this comparative study shows that the Annotation concentrates on explaining the phrase “one-minded and undisturbed”. While the Explication emphasizes on “ recollecting the name of Buddha with faith and vow “.The Annotation of Zhu-hong presents the merging among sects, and it’s notion of “ one-minded and undisturbed” signifies both the cultivation of practice and principle. Explication of Zhi-xu on the other hand, has a stronger emphasis on cultivation and attainment. It’s “recollecting the name oh Buddha with faith and vow” implies reliance on other’ effort.
