Abstract The Buddhist story paintings of Dunhuang murals can be divided into five categories in content: painting of story from the life of Buddha, Jataka stoey painting, paiting of Het- upratyaya story, painting of parable from sutra and paiting of Buddhist story painting vary greatly. They comtain the single picture, combination picture, the serial picture, the screen picture and panorama, The artists of Northem Liang, Western Wei, Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, the Five Dynasties and Song perionds all created different period styles.
