摘要 | This volume presents the proceedings of a conference held in January 1993 at His Lai Temple. All invited speakers were highly knowledgeable in Asian languages, with expertise in fields such as history, literature, language, and sutra translation in Buddhism. The discussions were based on analyses of the available data concerning Prakrit, Sanskrit, Khotanese, and the target language, Chinese, as they appear in early Buddhist texts and translations. Topics included paleography, literature, sutra, incantation, and phonology in early Buddhism, as it developed in India, Central Asia, and China. This collection allows us to understand the complex processes of adaptation and assimilation within early Chinese Buddhism. It also highlights the relationship between Chinese Buddhism and the western regions. As anticipated, this collection will be beneficial for those interested in Buddhism.
