摘要
Man is the measure of all things; mind is the measure of man. Our words and deeds are under the control of the "mind". There is one stanza in the Vimalakirti Sutra, "A pure land stems from a pure state of mind. "Buddhadharma offers numerous dharmagates for people to regulate the mind to rest in a pure state. Among these dharmagates are Anapana, the six subtle subsequent stages in practicing meditation:(1) counting the breaths (2) following the breaths (3) ceasing all illusive thoughts (4) contemplating (5) returning to the innate state (6) resting in purity. One cannot penetrate Buddhadharma without a pure state of mind. Buddhadharma is wonderful in that in emptiness there is existence. Great bodhisattvahood covers the four infinite Buddha states of mind-kindness, compassion, joy and limitless renunciation of all things. Kindness can bestow happiness upon oneself and others; compassion can uproot all suffering. Joy arises when one sees others gain deliverance from suffering; complete renunciation can lead to a state of non-discrimination. Unfortunately,at the present age, instead of uprooting their own suffering, people impose more and more suffering upon themselves, that is, because of ignorance, sentient beings have been creating immeasurable vicious karmas. They are unaware that they have been in a predicament of agony all the time. One of my paintings, "Buddha in tears throughout the night. "can best se describe the spirit of great bodhisattvahood. That means a bodhisattva practitioner always wishes people freedom from suffering and never pursues comfort for his own sake. Such a compassionate state of mind is mental ecology. The Prajnaparamita Sutra says, " Don't make yourself obsessed; don't make others obsessed, either. "Clear and wholesome mentality leads to a pure state of mind. The Book of Great Learning says, "To that calmness there will succeed a tranquil repose. In that repose there may be a state of unperturbedness. "Such a state in the successful result of reciprocal mental ecology. Nowadays Conversationalists have been actively devoted to environmental protection, yet they don't realize that mental ecology is the key to its success. Buddha's instruction aims at regulating the mind to a state of tranquillity and purity,If,in the course of precious life, people can show concern for each other, such man-made disasters as slaughter, scramble, swindle, will no doubt be put an end to. Therefore,we can put it this way,"Mental ecology can bring about benefit to oneself and others, "Mental ecology is the pivot of lifelong education.
