For three decades, E. Gene Smith ran the Tibetan Text Publication Project, an effort to salvage and reprint Tibetan literary and religious works. Smith wrote prefaces to these reprinted books to help clarify and contextualize the particular Tibetan texts. Originally produced in print quantities of twenty, these prefaces became legendary, achieving an almost cult status. These essays are compiled together in book form for the first time and represent an extraordinary resource for all those interested in the literature and religion of Tibet.
