摘要 | The Indian "Natya-shastra" is an encyclopedia of drama (including dance, poetry, and music). Chapter Six is entitled “Rasa”,a word meaning sentiment, aesthetic experience. This is not only an important concept in Sanskrit poetry, but also the core of Sanskrit dramatic aesthetics. Basing my work on the Sanskrit version edited by M. Ramakrishna kavi and K. S. Ramaswami Sastri (1956) and referring to English and Japanese translations, I here submit a Chinese translation. The "Natya-shastra classifies the aesthetic experience into eight types:erotic, comic, compassionate, furious, heroic, terrifying, disgusting, and awesome; these are based on the eight sthayibhava (permanent emotions):love, amusement, sorrow, anger, dynamic energy, fear, disgust, and wonder. The discourse considers the relations between and among these aesthetic experiences, and symbolically combines them with eight colors and gods to explicate these eight experiences. The aesthetic experience arises from the combination of vibhava (the conditions that give rise to feelings),anubhava (the expression of feelings and physical changes),and the thirty three vyabhicari [-bhava] (accompanying transitory states). From this standpoint the eight rasas are introduced and defined, and examples arc given for each. |
