The Kamakura Period of Japan=日本鎌倉時代 (1185-1333); 日本佛教=Japanese Buddhism
摘要
The book represents a facet of Suzuki's thought heretofore unknown to Western readers familiar only with his English works. Focusing on the idea of spiritual awakening, Suzuki offers a cogently argued history of Japanese religious thought based on spiritual experience. He describes the awakening of religious consciousness in the Japanese during the Kamakura period and manifestations of Japanese spirituality, as well as such aspects of Buddhism as Honen, Nembutsu Shomyo, and the Myokonin. Throughout, the volume reflects Suzuki's experiential grasp of Buddhism, the basic source of his thinking.
