The history of Drink in Dunhuang can be dated back to the Han Dynasty. During tile period of the Tang and the Five Dynasties, drink had become common practice among the Dunhuang people and played the important part of the daily life. Drink was used to banquets, sacrificial rites, wedding ceremony and entertaining guests. Drinkers were distributed all anal stratums. Many people, regardless of men and women, old and young, officials and common people, even Buddhist monks and nuns, liked to drink. The drink custom was recorded in a lot of Dunhuang Manuscripts. Through these records, it is can be said that the drink custom of Dunhuang in the Tang and the Five Dynasties was effected by varied culture from Central Plain of China and Central Asia and other areas.
