Gao Panlong’s viewpoint of Buddhism is that the words “nature” and “good” which Buddhism claims are different from Confucian “principle”. Either judging by the time they appeared or by the content they talked, we can draw a conclusion that Buddhism and Confucianiam are not of the same school. Buddhism has some disadvantages. It disdains ceremony, has no emotion and is also selfish. This article concludes that Gao persisted in Confucianism, obeyed Confucian doctrine and excluded Buddhism unilaterally on the one hand, which demonstrates the essence of his thought. On the other hand, there are many mistakes in Gao Panlong’s cognition and evaluation about Buddhism.
