The so-called “Shebao” is that the dignitaries in Buddhism will burn themselves to be released quickly from suffering after their religious doctrine is fulfilled consummately. From the view of origin, the act of “Shebao” is influenced by the Jainism. From the perspective of the Buddhist sutras, it relates with “Saddharmapundarika-sutra” and belongs to the early form of the religion. From the aspect of the sectarian classification of Chinese Buddhism, it is relevant with Tiantai Sect, which has been established on the basis of “Saddharmapundarika-sutra”.
