?layavijñāna, the very important concept in Yogācāra Buddhism, is the basis of the defiled and pure things. It has three properties: with all seeds, maintaining the body, and being karmic reward. Because ālayavijñāna stores all seeds of the mental activities and materials, it is the origin of ctivating our consciousness and body. Also, ālayavijñāna is in charge of the functions of our organs, so it is a necessity to maintain the active life. Finally, ālayavijñāna is the reward of our past behaviors. Therefore layavijñānais the essence and the subject of life. It is determined by past karmas and can determine the future of sentient beings.
